We started CoachingOurselves with just one topic
Alberta Health Services (AHS) is the province-wide organization responsible for health care for 3.5 million people in Alberta, Canada with a mission to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans. It is the largest provider of health care in Canada and Alberta's largest employer with about 85,000 staff. They started CoachingOurselves when their CEO used one topic to stimulate a 90-minute discussion with the senior team around a specific current issue. This was so successful it led to the deployment of CoachingOurselves for almost 250 senior managers across the organization.
“We started CoachingOurselves with just one topic, 'Silos and Slabs in Organizations' by Henry Mintzberg. This stimulated and guided a rich discussion with my senior management team that allowed us to explore a number of issues. This generated a number of new ideas and perspectives that will help us tackle some of the challenges facing our complex 85,000-employee organization. As a result, we used this same CoachingOurselves topic during an offsite meeting with one hundred managers from the senior leadership team to equally positive results. There was a very high level of acceptance of this approach to team-guided management development. About 30 management teams will now be using CoachingOurselves topics built into their team meetings. They will be able to choose which topics are most relevant to their own team development.”
