The word ‘Catalyst’ comes from chemistry where it is used to describe a substance used to speed up change. Today the term is used to refer to many situations, for example, someone who plays a key role in igniting or accelerating an important change

The idea of catalytic leadership has taken off recently as people begin to think about the challenges in initiating change in situations where leaders might not have executive authority over various groups, for example in a joint venture, strategic alliance or multi-agency collaboration.

In this coaching program topic,Author, Rick Crawley explores the characteristics of Catalytic Leadership and helps participants reflect on how they can create opportunities for becoming Catalytic Leaders.

Rick Crawley is currently the Associate Dean of External Relations and Corporate Communications at the Lancaster University Management School in the U.K., where he is also involved in directing the Global Advanced Leadership Program (ALP) and the International Masters in Practicing Management (IMPM).
