Managing is full of conundrums, paradoxes, and predicaments. They are built into the management process itself — they are managing.

What all these words mean is that the problems of managing cannot be resolved or eliminated. But they can be faced, understood, and alleviated. That is the purpose of this CoachingOurselves topic titled "Dealing with the Condundrums of Managing".

The objective of this topic, written by Henry Mintzberg, is to come to understand five key managerial conundrums: dealing with how to connect when managing is inherently disconnected, how to go deep when the pressure is on to deliver quickly, how managers can see the bigger picture when information comes to them in small bits, how to act clearly and decisively in a complex world, and how to be confident in managing without becoming arrogant. You will also share ways to face all these in order to be more effective in your daily managing.

Henry Mintzberg, Cleghorn Professor of Management Studies at McGill University in Canada, is an internationally renowned speaker and author on organization and management. He has been described by Tom Peters as “perhaps the world’s premier management thinker”. Henry has published more than 150 articles and fifteen books, including Managers Not MBA’s, from which CoachingOurselves has sprung.See www.mintzberg.org to learn more.
