" Thoughtful reflection on natural experience is the most powerful tool we have for management learning."
Henry Mintzberg, Partner of CoachingOurselves
Who participates?
A CoachingOurselves group can be:
- a manager with his or her reporting managers
- a group of peer managers
- management groups that need to be consolidated (for example, from two sides of a merger)
- a mix of new and experienced managers learning from each other
What is learned?
Each session revolves around a topic specially prepared for CoachingOurselves by a leading management thinker. The topics cover a wide range of managerial concepts and competencies, for example,"In Praise of Middle Management", "Time to Dialogue", and "Strategic Thinking As Seeing". We can help you select the topics best suited to your group, your situation, and your organization. For more on topics, click here.
How is it learned?
CoachingOurselves is based on the innovative International Masters in Practicing Management (see www.impm.org ), founded by Henry Mintzberg, Jonathan Gosling, and their colleagues, and described in Henry's book, Managers not MBAs. Here managers learn from each other by leveraging and sharing their own experience. In CoachingOurselves, however, there are no facilitators, no faculty, no formal coaches, just managers learning from each other, making this program the most natural extension of this new learning philosophy. Above all, CoachingOurselves is designed to be enjoyable - an insightful interlude in a hectic day.How does CoachingOurselves develop the organization?
CoachingOurselves stimulates Consulting-for-Ourselves
- It creates awareness of key issues in the organization.
- It encourages the group to reframe these issues.
- It promotes development of new ideas and actions to deal with these issues.
How to get the learning material?
After signing up with us, we prepare a private web space for your organization, enabling you to download your material, which includes slides detailing the topic and activities for the sessions.
